This from what I hear is a great lesson on standing wave. It is not short so get some coffee and snacks and settle in when the cold weather keeps us inside. For Joe WØMQY it will be after he does his antenna work in the ice and snow. HaHa !!
Take a look at this !! The Woofferton transmitting station is owned and operated by Encompass Digital Media, as one of the BBC's assets which were handed over as part of the privatization of World Service distribution and transmission in 1997. It is the last remaining UK shortwave broadcasting site, located at Woofferton, south of Ludlow, Shropshire, England.
Eric KJ4YZI has a great YouTube channel and he is starting a new series...
"This is where you start. Video #1. I have done a quick video on each one of the HF bands to educate the newcomer to the hobby or for anyone who wants to learn. You can learn here about each one of the bands we have, such as when you can operate these bands, how long a wire antenna for that band should be and what you might find when exploring each band. I hope everyone who watches this that may be new to the hobby will learn from this. PLEASE comment below, give a THUMBS UP for the effort of these videos, subscribe and stay tuned for each new video released."
This is an impressive documentation of how they deployed for emergency communications in SW Florida... including Pine Island, Sanibel and Fort Myers immediately after the storm passed. Wow.
Steve Draper N5SD called me yesterday to inform me that Phil Rankin KØPR passed away yesterday September 5th. He had been living in Garfield Arkansas and had battled long term illness that he could not recover from.
Phil was very much a part of the Pittsburg Repeater Organization "PRO" group and was instrumental in the development of amateur radio and radio communications in the four states area.
His QRZ page tells a lot of his story... and he will be missed. No word yet on services but when we learn details we will pass it on. Please keep his family in your prayers.
Here is an excerpt from the article I posted on our website with a few photos...
"Keith was very appreciative and we were glad to help. We got a tour of his garage and ham shack. A shack in which he was able to get USA Worked All COUNTIES..... TWICE and working on a third round now! He operates almost all on SSB and is a very successful and veteran ham operator."
And on a personal note, Keith was my first HF contact.... yep a whole 3 miles! January 17, 2013 I was still holding a technician license ans was listening to my tech portion of 10 meters and I heard him making a contact with a station in the state of Washington. I had not looked up his call yet.... I called for him and he answered. I was excited, my FIRST HF contact! Looked him up and sure enough we was just west of Chicopee!
After he passed, his daughter Joy Lynette Stahl reached out to us on Facebook to see if we could help his wife with selling his equipment. She then posted this fantastic comment from her memories with her dad. One of the best family ham stories I have heard. Thank you and SEKARC sends our most sincere sympathies.
We have a couple of members reaching out to help her and it was nice to hear directly from his daughter.

Here are the latest results of an interesting poll we posted a year or so ago.... still gets responses. Probably no real surprises... if 6m was included I'd guess it would be in the 40% range? What do you think?
